USA Women 1-2 in Grand Prix The USA women's team began their annual World Grand Prix competition over the weekend. The Grand Prix is similar in format to the men's World League in that it is a month long, involves traveling every weekend to different match locations and has lots of money on the line for the winners. One major difference is they'll play no matches at home.
A Shot at Grand Prix Final for USA Women The USA women won all three matches in the second preliminary round of the Grand Prix. The wins put them in fifth place overall and if the tournament ended today they would make the final round.
How "Over" Is The AVP? It's official. As of now, the AVP is done. After two weeks of limbo and waiting for word, the AVP let the staff, players and fans know on Friday the 13th of all days that the decision was made. The rest of the 2010 season is canceled. No scheduled AVP events in San Francisco, Chicago, Cincinnati, Hermosa Beach or Manhattan Beach in the coming weeks. It's over.
The Return of Old School VB Rules, once changed, hardly ever change back. So when beach volleyball shrunk the court, and both indoor and beach implemented rally scoring and the rest of the 2001 changes, I thought it was the end of volleyball as we knew it. And it was. For a while.
Phil and Todd Show Human Side Phil and Todd continued their roll over the weekend, beating Germans Reckermann and Brink in the final in Poland for their 7th win of the summer and their 15th FIVB win since they partnered up in 2006.
AVP Buys Time, Wait Continues AVP fans will have to wait a few more days to hear news regarding the fate of the 2010 Tour. No word yet from the league about whether the 2010 season will go forth or if the Long Beach event was the summer's last.
A World Without the AVP With this week's announcement that the AVP is in crisis, I began to wonder what the world would be like without the pro beach volleyball league. Of course, we would all continue to go about our business and our individual lives wouldn't change that drastically.
50 Years of Manhattan Beach When word came down that the AVP had suspended operations and canceled the remaining 2010 events, there were plenty of reasons for the sadness and disappointment that followed for those who love the game. But of the five remaining events canceled, one in particular was a total travesty.
