Volleyball season kicks off tonight
The Purdue volleyball team will play against three teams this weekend, including No. 24 Northern Iowa in the Mortar Board Tournament. The Boilermakers will also compete against Central Michigan and Western Kentucky.

Volleyball: East Hall drops pair of matches
GAINESVILLE -- The East Hall girls volleyball team dropped a pair of tough matches Thursday at the Lakeview Academy gym. The Lady Vikings fell to Region 8-A/AA foe Lakeview 25-21, 17-25, 25-20 in the opening match and then lost to non-region opponent Oconee County 25-8, 25-18 in the nightcap.
Volleyball loses in straight sets against No. 24 Northern Iowa
The Central Michigan's volleyball team didn't get off to the regular season start they wanted Friday. CMU lost in straight sets, 3-0, against No. 24 ranked Northern Iowa in its first game of the Purdue Mortar Board Premiere in West Lafayette, Ind.
Volleyball: Lady Falcons stay perfect in 8N-AAAA
FLOWERY BRANCH – The Flowery Branch volleyball team swept a pair of matches Tuesday at home. The Lady Falcons opened with a 25-22, 25-19 win over North Forsyth. They then knocked Region 8N-AAAA for Salem 25-11, 25-10 to stay perfect in subregion play.

SUGAR HILL -- The West Hall girls volleyball team continued its strong start to the season sweeping a pair of matche from Lanier and Meadowcreek Thursday.
VOLLEYBALL REPORT: Ider drops two
Ider was swept in a high school volleyball tri-match at Geraldine on Thursday. The Lady Hornets fell to Geraldine 25-20, 25-12, and Sand Rock handed the Lady Hornets a 22-25, 25-22, 16-14 setback.

Here Comes Team USA The USA women are starting to find their stride at the World Grand Prix. Since Logan Tom rejoined the squad last week, the team has won its last six matches and catapulted from fifth place to second in the standings behind Brazil.
How "Over" Is The AVP? It's official. As of now, the AVP is done. After two weeks of limbo and waiting for word, the AVP let the staff, players and fans know on Friday the 13th of all days that the decision was made. The rest of the 2010 season is canceled. No scheduled AVP events in San Francisco, Chicago, Cincinnati, Hermosa Beach or Manhattan Beach in the coming weeks. It's over.
50 Years of Manhattan Beach When word came down that the AVP had suspended operations and canceled the remaining 2010 events, there were plenty of reasons for the sadness and disappointment that followed for those who love the game. But of the five remaining events canceled, one in particular was a total travesty.
USA Women 1-2 in Grand Prix The USA women's team began their annual World Grand Prix competition over the weekend. The Grand Prix is similar in format to the men's World League in that it is a month long, involves traveling every weekend to different match locations and has lots of money on the line for the winners. One major difference is they'll play no matches at home.
Phil and Todd Show Human Side Phil and Todd continued their roll over the weekend, beating Germans Reckermann and Brink in the final in Poland for their 7th win of the summer and their 15th FIVB win since they partnered up in 2006.
The Last of the 2010 Beach Season The AVP may have collapsed and the summer may be coming to an end, but you still have a few chances to catch some beach volleyball. This Saturday, the winners of the Barefoot Wine AVPNext Championship Cup will take on the Olympiansin Milwaukee. The men's winner will take on Todd Rogers and Phil Dalhausser while the winning women's team will play Kerri Walsh and Rachel Wacholder.
Old School Rules Bring Manhattan Boycott The Manhattan Beach tournament celebrated its 50th anniversary over the weekend despite the collapse of the AVP. The long-standing beach volleyball tradition was carried on. But the weekend was not without its drama.
