Geraldine High School volleyball coach Cristie Brothers came to a realization about her squad while watching the Lady Bulldogs in recent exhibition matches.

The UCF volleyball team earned the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award for the first time in program history after posting a 3.384 team GPA during the 2009-10 school year.

Tivy volleyball camp in full swing
Not all 78 volleyball players at the Tivy Summer Volleyball Camp will play for Monica Meyers and the Lady Antlers. Some will. Others will return to their schools having gone through a three day Tivy High School Volleyball crash course at Tivy Gym.

Football, volleyball start up Monday
High School football and volleyball seasons will officially kick off Monday as area high schools begin workouts in all fall sports. Brenham High Schools football team will open workouts at 6:15 a.m., testing its athletes in the 40-yard dash and the mile.

The sport of volleyball got a mention on the national stage this week when our very own Misty May-Treanor made the list of America's favorite athletes.

Sitting on the list behind the Williams sisters, Danica Patrick, Mia Hamm, Maria Sharapova and Anna Kournikova, Misty tied with fellow "Dancing with the Stars" participant Shawn Johnson for the seventh spot in America's heart.

A Record Five Straight for Todd and Phil

Is there any beating Todd and Phil? With this week's win, the pair won it's fifth straight Hermosa Beach event. The win is their 54th as a team which moves them into third place all-time, surpassing legends Hovland and Dodd. The only two teams ahead of them now are Smith/Stoklos and Kiraly/Steffes.
