YHS volleyball open gym starts next week
The Yerington High School volleyball program will conduct voluntary open gym sessions for all interested players starting next week, with sessions set for Wednesday and Thursday (Aug. 4-5) at 6 p.m. in the YHS gym.

One More Feather for the Stanford Men Forgive me for the indulgence, folks. But you know I love my Stanford men's volleyball team and I have openly admitted that I can't be trusted to retain my journalistic integrity when it comes to them. That said, I still think this is news.
End of the Line It's official. The men's team will not participate in the World League final for the first time in four years. They needed to beat Russia twice this past weekend in Wichita. And to add even more pressure, they needed to do it in four sets or less to have a shot (and not even a guaranteed one) at the playoffs.
Bright Spots For USA Men The USA men may be out of the World League playoff before they hoped to be, but despite the disappointing result, there are some bright spots. The matches against Egypt in Cairo two weeks ago just aired over this past weekend.
A Record Five Straight for Todd and Phil Is there any beating Todd and Phil? With this week's win, the pair won it's fifth straight Hermosa Beach event. The win is their 54th as a team which moves them into third place all-time, surpassing legends Hovland and Dodd. The only two teams ahead of them now are Smith/Stoklos and Kiraly/Steffes.
Ripples in the AVP Waters Just like the minor earthquakes we've been having with frequency here in So Cal, the newest partner swaps will make a few waves, but will not exactly shake the AVP off it's foundation. They will, however, provide for some new and possibly interesting match-ups and give us some fresh chemistry to keep an eye on for the future.
Misty Makes the List The sport of volleyball got a mention on the national stage this week when our very own Misty May-Treanor made the list of America's favorite athletes. Sitting on the list behind the Williams sisters, Danica Patrick, Mia Hamm, Maria Sharapova and Anna Kournikova, Misty tied with fellow "Dancing with the Stars" participant Shawn Johnson for the seventh spot in America's heart.
