Big Weekend Ahead for Top NCAA Teams

After all the craziness of the last few weeks in beach volleyball, we can now officially turn our attention back to the indoor game.

The women's season is underway and the Week 2 regular season rankings are out. Despite losing superstars Megan Hodge and Alisha Glass, Penn State is still atop the the Coaches Poll. They started the season with a 6-0 record, though they have not yet been tested. This weekend that will change as the Nittany Lions head to Florida for the Big Four Volleyball Classic along with No. 2 Texas, No. 3 Stanford, and No. 6 Florida.

Organizers in Cincinnati put together what from all accounts was a great pro beach volleyball event without the help of the AVP this past weekend. Eight men's and eight women's pairs took to the court at Hahana Beach and played it out for a $10,000 first place prize.

One question that came up in the midst of all the talk of boycotts and conspiracy theories surrounding the Manhattan Beach tournament was whether or not it was fair for this year's winners to get their names on the pier. After all, if the top players aren't there, is it really such a feat to win? Maybe there should be an asterisk by the name of this year's winner.
